OMIC R&D Joins America Makes to Advance Additive Manufacturing Capabilities

October 30, 2025   /   Jon Elias

The Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center, Research and Development (OMIC R&D) has officially joined America Makes, the nation’s leading public-private partnership for additive manufacturing (AM) technology and education.

The membership, established under OMIC R&D’s fiduciary host, Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech), reflects the university’s support in advancing research, workforce development, and innovation in additive manufacturing.

Oregon Tech, through its world-class research center OMIC R&D, aims to expand its capabilities in metal additive manufacturing and further strengthen its role as a hub for advanced manufacturing innovation in the Pacific Northwest. The membership will enable Oregon Tech faculty and OMIC R&D to collaborate with a national network of industry, government, and academic partners working to accelerate the adoption of AM technologies and enhance U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.

“Joining America Makes aligns perfectly with our mission to drive innovation and collaboration across the manufacturing ecosystem,” said Don Hendrickson, Executive Director of OMIC R&D. “This partnership gives us access to a network of national leaders in additive manufacturing and will help us advance research that supports our members, strengthens regional supply chains, and builds the workforce of the future.”

Dr. Mostafa Saber echoed the sentiment. “Our involvement with America Makes reinforces Oregon Tech’s and OMIC R&D’s shared commitment to advancing applied research and education in additive manufacturing.” Dr. Saber is a Professor of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering and Technology at Oregon Tech and will serve as the primary contact with America Makes. “Through this membership, we gain valuable access to national resources, expertise, and collaborative opportunities that will accelerate innovation and prepare students to lead in this rapidly evolving field.”

Founded in 2012 as the Department of Defense’s National Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Additive Manufacturing and the first of the Manufacturing USA network, America Makes is based in Youngstown, Ohio, and managed by the not-for-profit National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). America Makes members from industry, academia, government, and workforce and economic development organizations work together to accelerate the adoption of AM and bolster the nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness.
