Oregon’s manufacturers will gain expanded access to world-class additive manufacturing research, equipment, and expertise thanks to a $1 million state grant renewal awarded to the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research & Development (OMIC R&D).
The funding, part of Business Oregon’s $8 million investment in five Centers of Innovation Excellence across the state, will enable OMIC R&D’s Additive Innovation Center to advance cutting-edge manufacturing solutions for companies of all sizes, from early-stage startups to established industry leaders.
“Our mission is to ensure that all Oregon-based manufacturers can tap into the technology, talent, and resources they need to compete on a global stage,” said Don Hendrickson, Executive Director of OMIC R&D. “This renewal empowers us to continue supporting the full spectrum of Oregon’s manufacturing ecosystem, helping businesses innovate faster, work smarter, and grow stronger.”
Launched in 2023 under the state’s 10-Year Innovation Plan, the CIE program supports public–private partnerships that bridge research and industry needs. The Additive Innovation Center at OMIC R&D serves as Oregon’s hub for applied research in 3D printing and advanced manufacturing processes, with capabilities that include:
– Collaborating with Oregon manufacturers on rapid prototyping and production
– Providing hands-on training for the next generation of skilled manufacturing professionals
– Developing and testing advanced materials and processes for real-world applications
With this renewal for the 2025–2027 biennium, OMIC R&D will expand equipment access, strengthen industry and academic partnerships, and deliver more innovation-driven solutions to Oregon manufacturers.
Located in Scappoose and hosted by Oregon Tech, OMIC R&D brings together manufacturers, researchers, and educators to solve pressing industrial challenges. By serving as a bridge between concept and commercialization, OMIC R&D is helping make Oregon a national leader in advanced manufacturing innovation.
