
Scappoose, OR — May 28, 2025 — Anika Havlik, a proud native of Columbia County and former intern at the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research & Development (OMIC R&D), is set to graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy this spring. Her journey from a high school student with a passion for STEM to a distinguished cadet exemplifies dedication, resilience, and the power of community-supported opportunities.
During her time at Scappoose High School, Anika participated in the Columbia Works program, where she interned at OMIC R&D. There, she jumped into virtual reality programming, designing and building a comprehensive VR tour of the OMIC R&D facility. Her work encompassed coding, animating, 3D modeling, and integrating these elements into a cohesive experience. Reflecting on this experience, Anika stated, “Under the guidance of our mentor, we created an incredible final product.”
Anika’s internship not only honed her technical skills but also bolstered her confidence. She shared, “I am more confident in my ability to adapt and am better prepared to go to college and enter the workforce.” Her achievements during this period earned her a congressional nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy from Representative Suzanne Bonamici and Senator Ron Wyden, where she pursued her passion for biology.
Throughout her tenure at the Academy, Anika demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment. She is graduating first of her class.
