Scappoose, Oregon; April 4, 2023 — Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research and Development (OMIC R&D) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Additive Innovation Center on April 11 at 3:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
OMIC R&D Director Craig Campbell will provide media availability from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. in front of the Additive Innovation Center prior to the ribbon cutting, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, media availability will be in the OMIC R&D Center lobby.
Hosted by Oregon Tech, Oregon’s Polytechnic University, the new 30,000-square-foot Additive Innovation Center is the second building on the OMIC R&D Scappoose campus and will include a large manufacturing floor, ample office space with adjoining classrooms, partner collaboration space and contains more than $7 million in cutting-edge metals additive technology.
The Additive Innovation Center is globally unique because it will use all seven metals additive (3D printing) manufacturing technologies.
The industrial-scale 3D printers will allow OMIC R&D to assist the region’s small- and medium-sized manufacturers to transition to the additive manufacturing technology best suited for their needs, enabling a strong domestic supply chain and economic resiliency.
“This Center will put Oregon at the forefront in 3D metals manufacturing applied research. The cost reductions, environmental benefits, and design and manufacturing flexibility of metals printing provide a significant benefit to the companies willing to harness its potential,” Campbell said.
The project was funded by the State of Oregon.
The ribbon-cutting will be held at the OMIC R&D Additive Innovation Center, 33701 Charles T. Parker Way, in Scappoose.
The event starts at 3:30 p.m. with a keynote address from Dr. Melissa Orme, Vice President of Boeing Additive Manufacturing for The Boeing Company, a charter member of OMIC R&D. Dr. Orme is responsible for continuing to grow and scale additive manufacturing capabilities and expand understanding of the unique features that 3D printing can bring to Boeing factories and production lines. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR District 1) will also make remarks at the event. Tours of the new facility will be given.
